Lab 2 Overview

This Lab moves the participant group to thinking about the opportunities for collaboration within research and the specific theme for the Lab is ‘your research community – your networks’. The large questions for the Lab are: ‘How can you collaborate with others in your research community?' and 'What are the cultural and infrastructural challenges to collaboration?’

The summary below gives an overview of the material available for this Lab in the order it is used in the programme. A detailed suggested programme is available for either a 3-day or 2-day Lab. The following items are a necessary part of this Crucible, whether it is run over two days or three days:

  • Introduction to Lab 2 (with PowerPoint).
  • Speed collaboration (with PowerPoint).
  • Collaboration wall (with PowerPoint).
  • Grand challenges (with Word).
  • Book club (with PowerPoint).

These items are optional ones that you can run if time and budget allow:

  • Building the University of Utopia (with Word).
  • Collaboration between arts and science.
  • Popularising academic research (with PowerPoint).
  • After dinner activities.
  • Field visits.

The optional sessions are included in this Lab to allow you to make the most of the time you have available. All of the sessions are included in the 3-day sample programme but only a selection of them are included in the 2-day programme.
